There was no February blog I see! So many priorities competing for attention. To top it all I went through the life changing experience of acquiring a puppy! He is called Kasper and is now 13 1/2 weeks old.

I have used words in my pictures for a long time. It is a part of telling a story for me, something that inspires my work a great deal. In that process it is a small step to actually incorporating chosen words in the work itself in some form.
Some years ago I started a series of ten pieces loosely entitled animal poems. Initially they were influenced by old eastern tales, allowing the words quite a central place, almost like a book page where images come out of the story. One of the first completed was about the Magic Bird. The series developed over a few years and changed; one of the last was the Thought Fox.
The Thought Fox was inspired by the famous poem with the same name by Ted Hughes. It had lived in my imagination for quite some time and when it came to fruition gave me an opportunity to also talk about the magic winters of my Northern Swedish childhood.
Words can come from many different sources, sometimes as song lyrics. One of my favourite studio compilation cd’s included Neil Young’s classic “Harvest Moon” performed by Cassandra Wilson. I used to listen carefully to the lyrics of this beautiful love song, knowing I would one day need to create something around this piece of music. It wanted to be a triptych to capture the story of the song.
I love working in a series, which is not surprising as stories have a beginning, a middle and an end, like chapters of a book. Once I created this series of five pieces called Alphabet Journey depicting five significant stations of my life. Here you see three of those, also incorporating fragments of song lyrics.
By now in the blog I realize that there will need to be a part two to this theme, as there is much more to explore in more recent work developments. So until then, thanks as always for reading.
